A little history

ESS Les Paccots since 1938

Each additional year, rather than getting older and become stiff, the ESS Les Paccots gain dynamism and youth. Meanwhile it celebrates the 75th birthday, the School is looking forward the future. The proof is about 42 000 hours of ski lessons given in 2012. Come a long way since its begining in 1938. At the time, Paul Pauli, president of the Development Corporation of Châtel-

Saint-Denis, Auguste Millasson first instructor of the canton, and Roger Diserens started this project. They founded the Châtel-Saint-Denis / Les Paccots Swiss Ski School. 1938 was marked as an important turning point for the station. At the same time the School put on the skis, the Monte-Pente Corbetta SA also was born. The beginnings were slow, with a small team, only 2

instructors to pass their knowledge. It was 1940 when the School joined the Swiss Ski Schools Association (AESS). Then, in 1990, ESSA and the Swiss Ski Interassociation merged, changing the profession of the ski instructor. The recognitions became federal and then snowboard made ??its appearance.

Professionalization of the skis and uniform

Formations go further, and the ESSS integrated internal courses. Monitors were professionalized. This professionalization is also seen in the monitor image with their students. If some current members admit that, at one time, the après-ski was part of the ritual and the jacket could help monitor the charm of the possition,

today isn’t longer question of decorate a day of ski or wearing the uniform outside of class. But one thing is sure, the good atmosphere within the ESSS prevail since its creation, despite of the increasing number of students and instructors, which are now more than 120 accompanied by auxiliaries.

More and more children on the skis

Not only the members of the school have experimented a strong evolution, his clients have also changed. Adults in the early years, and now, children are more numerous on the slopes of Les Paccots. More and more, and also younger. The Snow Garden was established in 1982

and has been recently redesigned to accommodate the younger. What about the evolution of material, or price? A day-course in 1938 cost 3,50 CHF, half-day 2 CHF. Now, enjoy a half-day course is 35 CHF. This fact doesn’t prevent the customer to stay loyal and familiar.

Since the creation of the school and the station, Riviera skiers constitute the largest share of Les Paccots followers, who survived in the hearts of skiers and instructors along the years.
